What is CPS ?

CPS(Certified Professional Secretary) is a global standard certification issued by The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), the world's largest association for administrative professionals with approximately 40,000 members and affiliates, and nearly 600 chapters worldwide.

CPS course is suitable for the people who are seeking to:

  • develop a career in international business administration
  • acquire a certification that make them stand out in the job market
  • hold a certification to show their competency in office administration
  • take an extra challenge for their future career while studying English as a Second Language
  • learn about business administration prior to going on an internship
  • study about the practical administrative applications that are comparable to the one taught in the MBA programs with less cost and time.

Course Descriptions

 

This is a multi-level advanced professional course for students in the Matrix Learning Program. This course will cover the basic terminology, essential materials, and tasks and theories associated with Office Administration, Management, and Office System Technology.

 

Office Administration

1.         Records Management: filing systems, file management, filing rules and standards.

2.         Communication: verbal communication; fundamentals and professional communication applications, research and reference materials, composing and editing written communication, writing business documents, producing documents in final format, rules of grammar, business etiquette.

 

Management

1.         Human Resources: basic management principles, recruitment, selection, and performance evaluation, legal and ethical issues, job analysis, training, and development, compensation, benefits, and record keeping,

2.         Accounting Procedures and Analysis: accounting procedures, financial statement analysis and managerial accounting

3.         Time Management

4.         Communication in cultural differences

 

Office System Technology

1.         Computer Hardware, Systems, and Configuration: terminology and basic concepts of information processing, hardware for computer operations, telecommunications and network technologies, the networked enterprise, system security.

2.         Document Layout, Design, and Reproduction: document layout and design, document reproduction.

3.         Software: system software for computer operations and management, software for business applications.

4.         Managing Physical Resources: furniture, equipment, and supplies, ergonomics.

 

This course will help you gain confidence in your communication, Office Administration, Management, and Office System Technology skills by helping you to improve your English speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This course also introduces you to common situations occurring in a typical American business office. In order for you to get clear understanding in the textbook’s materials, we will have some group activities during a class. Finally, this course will help to prepare you for the CPS Examination. 

By the end of this course, you will:

Ø      understand the many areas of Office Administration, Management, and Office System Technology on a professional level.

Ø       understand terminology and practices as they relate to the field of Office Administration, Management, and Office System Technology

Ø       be more aware of conventional behaviors in an office environment.

Ø       feel more comfortable interacting in an office environment.

Ø       be able to more effectively express yourself verbally and nonverbally.

Ø       be prepared to do well on the CPS Exam.

Course Overview

CPS course is designed in conjunction with an ESL course. Student Visa holders are recommended to enroll in an ESL course through Matrix Learning affiliate schools while taking CPS classes. After completing the CPS course, a corporate internship is available to put the knowledge into practice.

Eligibility to Take the CPS Exam
IIAP(International Association of Administrative Professionals) requires one of the following conditions:

  • Currently enrolled in a college(two years, four years or postgraduate)
  • Minimum of two years work experience in office administration after graduating with a bachelor degree
  • Minimum of three years work experience in office administration after graduating with an associate degree
  • Minimum of four years work experience in office administration after graduating from a high school or a trade school
  • Minimum of two months on going work experience in office administration at the time of the exam application

* Work experience includes part time jobs and internship within the last fifteen years with minimum of twenty hours per week for two months or longer.

Students are expected to understand the course work in English with a higher proficiency level than ESL programs. Students are highly recommended to prepare for the class ahead of time.
